Sheriff to move Mountain Detachment HQ to Eatonville

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department announced this week that it is moving the headquaters of its Mountain Detachment to Eatonville in an effort to save money.  The “D-10,” as the unit is called, is responsible for policing duties throughout the south county, from 224th St to the Lewis County border. Guns and Immigrants – an essay

 Here we go again.  Since the Newton massacre I have been deluged with emails describing righteous shooting deaths in the defense of some person or belief.  Below is the latest.

 All the emails come from friends or people whom I respect.  I respond and ask them what we should do in terms of gun safety, but I get nothing of substance in return.  It seems the subject of weapons and self-protection leaves them unable to converse coherently on legislation that can keep our kids safe. Suspect arrested in Graham as part of child porn investigation

Editor’s Note:  The Washington State Patrol has sent the Mountain News the following press release, announcing an arrest of a Graham resident in conjuntion with a child pornography investigation.

Taken in to custody was Teryle Smith, aged 43, and a man with that name lives in the 30000 block of 91st St in Graham.  Phone calls to an address listed to Mr. Smith were answered by a woman, who terminated the call after informing the Mountain News that she did not wish to offer a comment or explanation.
