Rainier Independent Film Festival enchants in Ashford

 

The 5th Annual Rainier Independent Film Festival brought three days of quality feature films and shorts, plus a bevy of documentaries and cinematic workshops to Ashford this weekend.  However, the festival had to compete with blue skies and blazing sunshine, so the turnout was light, estimated by officials at about 200. Comedy night at JR Whistle Stop delivers the laughs in Spanaway

 

A packed house got their money’s worth of comedy last Thursday at JR’s Whistle Stop restaurant in Spanaway.

 Over the past several months, owner John Reynolds (the JR) has brought professional comedy acts to his three-year old restaurant in the Bethel Station shopping mall as a way to fight the blues of the economic recession and as a unique addition to bolster lagging sales. Continue reading

Mariners a powerful magnet for baseball fans throughout region

 

Although an unusual six-game winning streak has propelled the Seattle Mariners out of last place in the Western Division, many of the baseball fans heading to Safeco Field these days may not care, ironically, because they’re going to root for the other team.
