DB Cooper researcher looking for a Cooper $20 in ciculation

Special to the Mountain News

Editor’s Note:

Eric Ulis, noted DB Cooper researcher, is initiating a project to locate any DB Cooper $20 bills that may still be in circulation, or “hiding in Aunt Sally’s attic in Kansas City,” as Eric phrased it to me in a conversation today. If you’ve got one, he’ll give you $25,000 for it, pending authentication.

In related news, Eric is the featured researcher in an upcoming DB Cooper documentary for the History Channel. His two-hour episode is scheduled for a broadcast in the fall as part of the HC’s series: History’s Greatest mysteries.” The series will be narrated by Lawrence Fishburne.

Lastly, if a Cooper $20 bill is found, it could radically transform the investigation, since it would strongly suggest that DB Cooper survived his jump.

$25,000 Reward Offered for DB Cooper $20 Bill

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                              MAY 18, 2020

SCOTTSDALE, AZ—On February 10, 1980 a small portion of DB Cooper’s $200,000 ransom—totaling approximately $5,800—was found along the Columbia River in Vancouver, WA. The ransom, weighing 19 lbs., was delivered in the form of 10,000 $20 bills. Outside of the $5,800 (190 bills) discovered in 1980, no one knows what happened to the remaining 9,810 bills and whether or not any of them re-entered circulation by being spent. Given this, a new month-long initiative is being launched with the intent of determining the fate of the missing $194,200. The month-long DB Cooper Bill Initiative will begin on May 19, 2020 and expire on June 19, 2020.

Eric Ulis, a leading expert on the DB Cooper case is spearheading the DB Cooper Bill Initiative which will pay $25,000 to the first person to handover a genuine $20 bill from the DB Cooper ransom that was not part of the original $5,800 discovered in 1980. The initiative is designed to enlist the public’s help in determining if any of the older $20 bills that they possess is one of the still-missing 9,810 $20 bills that was delivered to DB Cooper back in 1971.

The initiative will provide valuable data that will be used in the investigation into the DB Cooper skyjacking of November 24, 1971—the only unsolved skyjacking in United States history.

It is estimated that among the $20 bills in circulation during the time of the skyjacking, approximately 0.5% are still in circulation today. Therefore, it is assumed that if DB Cooper’s ransom was eventually spent, approximately 50 of the missing Cooper twenties are still in circulation. If so, we would like to find one.

All individuals who possess a $20 bill Series 1934, 1950, 1950 A, 1950 B, 1950 C, 1963, 1963 A or 1969 are encouraged to take a picture of the front of their bill and submit it via text to 425.606.9600. All bill inquiries will receive a text typically within a few minutes verifying whether or not their old twenty was part of DB Cooper’s ransom. Details related to the initiative may be found at https://TheCooperCase.com.

During the next month we will record the number of individual $20 bills cross-referenced via the DB Cooper Bill Initiative. If no Cooper twenties are discovered, the data will be used to mathematically determine the likelihood that any of the missing ransom was spent.

It is important to note, regardless of whether or not a new Cooper twenty is discovered during this initiative, the data provided will help shape the Cooper investigation moving forward and will be used to help solve the mystery.

It would help in determining if Cooper survived, who knows maybe some Cooper DNA

  2. sfudge7974 says:

He(John Smith aka D.B. Cooper) gave me a $100 bill…in the early 80’s….How many hijackers jumped from planes with ransom money and survived or got away with it?

    • brucesmith49 says:

      Greetings Sfudge,

A number of skyjackers got away with their money – at least for a period of time. One is Robb Heady, and I interviewed him extensively for my book: DB Cooper and the FBI – A Case Study of America’s Only Unsolved Skyjacking.

In addition, Martin McNally made it half way down with his money. Fred Hahneman made it all the way to teh ground and reportedly the money was recovered years later in foreign banks.

Those are just the Cooper Copycats. Some hijackers are still on the lam.

BTW: Cooper had $20s. Your 100-dollar bill was not part of the ransom.

    • FLYJACK says:

Hahneman wasn’t a Cooper copycat, his planning predated NORJAK according to a US diplomat who dealt with his surrender. Hahneman initially claimed the money was hidden in a foreign bank but it was recovered a year later hidden in the house of a relative. Hahneman unwittingly revealed it to a plant in prison.. woops.

      • brucesmith49 says:

        Thanks, FJ. Good info.

      • FLYJACK says:

Another thing to noodle during this zombie apocalypse..

Hahneman got out of prison in 1984,, he died in 1991 right about the same time Tina got out of witness protection aka the Eugene Nunnery… good thing I believe in coincidences.

I just posted a YouTube clip with details viewable at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDoJTMy8kFQ

  4. Victoria Wilson says:

I suggest you make this a Press Release in Canada as well. 😉

  5. FLYJACK says:

This is a cool idea, I have been looking for bills in the US and abroad, I found a damaged era correct $20 that match all of the numbers but one was obscured and a US $1 bill that matched the serial number exactly..

But Eric claimed using “American” or “US” to refer to currency wasn’t rare.. he does it all the time..

His reward is $25,000 not $25,000 “American” or “US”

    weird that..

If i find a bill, I won’t be collecting the reward..

Some days just having one twenty is an awesome achievement. Right now, I’ve got plenty thanks to the stim check…!

  8. brucesmith49 says:

FJ, can we at least see a pix of the bill?

    Congrats on the 23K.

  9. Homa says:

What is Flyhack for or against today – changed his mind in the last 10 minutes? Puts up posts – takes posts down. Impossible to keep up with but that’s what you media cult people do! You wouldn’t survive for ten minutes in the real world. Best you stay in a Cooper forum where you are safe. Except from each other!

    • Marla says:

Didn’t Robert Blevin’s mother breast feed the poor fellow longer than a couple weeks? Robert is lonely and severely starved for attention. My god, the poor soul doesn’t have any friends except for his keyboard.
