It was simple and quite unintentional. The name “Graham” transferred from camp boss Mr. Smith Graham to the logging area where he worked during the timber hey-day. Mr. Graham was the one who received the mail ‘off the hook” from the slowly moving train that still sometimes crosses Meridian (the old Barney-Larson road) at the Graham Hay Market, and mail bags destined for this area were tagged “Graham.” Continue reading

Another press release from the WSDOT reflects the historic levels of rain and mud slides effecting western Washington. Mountain Highway, aka SR 7, has been shut several times in the Nisqually gorge near the Packwood Forest, but now another section of the road has been impacted. Continue reading

EATONVILLE – State Route 7 has reopened along a 1.5-mile segment near Eatonville between Ohop Valley Road and 416th Street East. The road had been closed since March 17 because of a mudslide and subsequent observation. Continue reading

Spring may be knocking on our door down here in the flat country, but there’s plenty of snow just above us.
Earlier this week, Crystal Mountain Ski Area lost an entire chair lift system and its drive house when a controlled avalanche exceeded its projected size and distance. Daniel “Danny” Morse was honored by his family, friends, and community members in a memorial service held on 204th St near where he was killed by a drunk driver in 2009.
