Memorial service scheduled for Graham youth killed by drunk driver

This Friday, February 21, there will be a memorial service for Graham teenager Daniel Morse, who was killed in 2009 by a drunk driver.

 Daniel was 14 years-old when he was killed during the Christmas holiday period while riding his new skateboard on 204th St near Graham Elementary School.

 Pierce County has announced this week that memorial signs will be unveiled to commemorate Daniel, and to alert the community to the dangers of driving while impaired. Continue reading

Orting’s Chocolate Strollers brave cold winds for treats and fun

 The Third Annual Chocolate Stroll in Orting last Saturday, Feb 9, was a success, as families, seniors, couples and kids scurried about town getting their chocolate candies. However, the biting wind necessitated many unscheduled stops for hot chocolate to warm chilled strollers, or find a bench, sit and catch one’s breath.

 Ostensibly, the Chocolate Stroll is a marketing project for Orting’s downtown vendors to entice shoppers into their establishments with a free piece of chocolate. As such, the Chocolate Stroll resembles Halloween for adults. Continue reading

Third Annual Chocolate Stroll coming to Orting

The Third Annual Chocolate Stroll in Orting is preparing to launch next weekend, Saturday February 8.

 For the uninitiated, the Chocolate Stroll is a city-wide event hosted by the businesses of Orting, who open their doors and give strollers a free piece of chocolate – either a chocolate candy, cupcake, slice of cake or a cup of cocoa. Continue reading

DB Cooper – 42nd Anniversary celebrations include symposium in Tacoma and annual bash in Ariel

 The famous DB Cooper skyjacking occurred 42 years ago this Thanksgiving Day weekend, and the occasion was commemorated by a professional symposium at the Washington State Historical Museum in Tacoma. Animal rights group in Eatonville seeking a foster home for a special dog

Editor’s Note:  The Mountain News received the following note from the Animal Control of Eatonville group (ACE).  They are looking for a home for a dog that has been rescued.  Below is their charming story of “Jo-Jo.”

Thursday, September 19, in the evening, a woman sees a man toss a dog out of his black pickup truck on a rural south Pierce County Highway, and speed off, the dog running to catch up. The woman posts on the Facebook page “Eatonville Virtual Yard Sale,” about the despicable act she witnessed. Others begin posting and trying to spot the dog. Continue reading
