At the Washington, D.C. Women’s March Saturday, Ashley Judd delivered a rousing dramatic presentation of a poem written by a 19-year old Tennessean woman named Nina Donovan, which has continued to rock the resistance to President Donald Trump.

Below, the Mountain News shares the script of the Judd/Donovan piece, courtesy of the Fair Use Doctrine on intellectual properties. Following that is an essay from Paula Morris, a long-time Mountain News contributing reporter, describing how the poem has inspired her to insure equal rights for all.

What happens next? How can we make a change?

Well. What a turn out for all the Women’s Marches around the world this weekend, and I feel proud to have been a part of it.

Everyone seems to have a different take on the marches. People were marching for so many causes; people with different priorities; different social, political, economic, religious, scientific backgrounds and opinions. The following poem was written by a long-time Democrat friend, Dave Mitman. Dave has always put his money where his mouth was, and gave a couple bucks to local candidate Darcy Burner in 2008 and 2010. He even put up yard signs for Obama in 2012, and slapped a “Feel the Bern” bumper sticker on his pick-up this year.

But he never wrote a poem about a politician before. That’s how angry Dave is.

In his email to me with his poem, “Putin’s Puppy,” he prefaced it with a little note:  “I realized I had way to much time on my hands when I started to write a poem. Could not help myself as this was therapeutic. Hope you enjoy, and if you wish pass it on. Also, I refuse to use a capital “T” for trump; he does not deserve one.”
